Eligibility requirements

At Prolific, our participant pool is made up of a wide range of participants. To target particular participants, you can apply prescreening filters (e.g. age, gender, nationality) to the studies. For more information, you can read the Demographic Prescreening Help Guide.

When creating or updating a study, use the participant eligibility requirements object to apply the prescreening filters. Before you dive into the API and the technical details, you can look at our participants calculator.

The Eligibility Requirements can be complicated. If yours still doesn’t work, please submit a request with your curl command.

Not supported:

• Prolific does not support prescreening participants or similar features to MTurk qualifications. We recommend running a multi-part study: use the first to qualify participants and the second to conduct the research. If you want even greater control, you can leverage the PreviousStudiesEligibilityRequirement and PreviousStudiesAllowlistEligibilityRequirement requirements to filter participants by their completion codes (configured during study creation). We are actively exploring additional approaches for the future.
